E/I/N Presents Cavalier Song

Cavalier Song inscribe modern hymns that celebrate a merging of the imagination and material forms. Their cinematic stares study earthy landscapes and post-industrial wastelands, constructing a range of sonic artworks that meditate on the human condition, stirring memory and desire within definitions of a terrible sublime. The results are a series of lush, yet darkly affective, symphonic abstractions. Cavalier Song deploy a post-minimalist sensibility, referencing a range of art forms including painting, sculpture and literature. Musical influences include Philip Glass, Swans, Grouper, John Coltrane and King Crimson, each echoing a fascination for repetition, duration and modal improvisation.

Alabama 3 (Acoustic)
Heeding Woodie Guthrie's maxim, Alabama 3 have never feared the reduction of their technology. Consequently, Alabama 3 acoustic is brave enough to go out on the road armed only with a battered acoustic guitar and harmonica, preaching Guthrie's word that 'this machine kills fascists.' In homage to the classic delta blues slide players like Mississippi Fred McDowell, Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker and their own Rockfree Base (though not in that pantheon of greats), we present our own narco-acoustic slant on Alabama 3 and the music that has inspired us along the way. Complete with Larry Love's gravelly ash-stained vocals, Nick Reynolds bank robber melodies on harmonica, they provide a raucous show, which is in no way constrained by the boring maxim that often goes with acoustic gigs! Fresh from their full band recording of ‘Blues’ released in November 2016, fans have enjoyed acoustic arrangements of the latest recordings along with their back catalogue of hits this year. An unrivaled Marxist machine gun, Alabama 3 Acoustic are on a mission to get you mashed. £15 adv // 7pm Doors .... more info

The Hoosiers - Trick To Life 10th Anniversary
THE HOOSIERS HEADLINE THE LIVE ROOMS CHESTER TO CELEBRATE THEIR 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEBUT ALBUM ‘THE TRICK TO LIFE’ PLAYING IT IN ENTIRETY! 2007 saw The Hoosiers explode upon an unsuspecting public with their debut album “The Trick To Life”, which reached the top of the album charts and spawned the indie-pop classics ‘Worried About Ray’ and ‘Goodbye Mr A’, which still pack out indie dance floors a decade later. Never released on vinyl, the band will be selling a new limited edition vinyl pressing and expanded 2CD edition of their debut when they undertake a huge UK tour that will see them play the album in its entirety, something they’ve never done before. The multi-platinum success of their debut album raised huge expectations for its follow-up, not least at The Hoosiers’ record label. The prophetically titled “The Illusion of Safety” was, all the band agree, a troubled project from the start. Irwin suggests, “The word ‘hit’ is substituted for ‘good’. There’s an art to writing under those conditions, but it wasn’t one that worked for us. It exacts a toll on too many writers. You give up too much if you do that.” “The News From Nowhere”, released in 2014, was an astonishing return to form along with 2015’s “The Secret Service”, both self-released after the above troubles with labels. “Doing it on our own terms,” says Irwin, “and actually having a proper say in it, felt wonderful. We had nothing to lose, but a lot to prove.” Tension, creativity, democracy, arguments, time apart, coming back together, and then songs. Lots of them. Gone is the self-consciousness of the dog days around their second album; gone, too, the self-doubt. In their place is a deeply rooted – and hard-won – confidence, and a determination to lock back in to the freedom and joy of the early days. .... more info
